Hand HEwn WHITE OAK BOX BEAMS

Our box beams are crafted from authentic reclaimed white oak sourced from structures dating back to the 1800s, showcasing the unique character and history of the wood.

  • 2, 3 or 4 -sided box construction with outside dimensions as listed above
  • Corners mitered for a clean, seamless appearance
  • Backside planed and all visible faces sanded
  • Natural color range of light to medium brown, beige, blond, and golden brown
  • Hand Hewn Oak varies in light to heavy ax marks that vary in degree of the marks (per request,   e can offer  light or heavy markings)
  • These can be stained upon request
  • Wire brushed or sanded finish are optional
  • Bore care treatment applied for added protection and stability
  • Built from outer boards that were cut from the original beam.  These boards contain the original ax mark and patina.  They are  anywhere from 120 to 200 years old

Each beam is one-of-a-kind, with natural variation in grain, stress cracks, nail holes, bug holes, knots, and patina that reflects its historic origin.

Installation

A skilled installer/builder with experience in similar projects is suggested although many DIYers have completed installation on their owner. We are here to assist in any way we can, however, we do not install.

 

Allow wood products to acclimate to the environment before installation storing in a well ventilated area. Make sure they stay dry and all surrounding area is dry as well. We suggest giving the wood 2-3 days for this. 

 

Maintaining proper temperature and humidity levels before, during, and after installation is very important as wood can expand and contract depending on the environment. 

 

Saw beams on one edge to the length needed for a flush mount. 

 

Box Beams

  • Install Support Brackets: Use wood 2'x4'-10' for brackets or other support structures to anchor the beams securely to the ceiling or wall. Make sure the brackets are properly spaced and aligned. You may have to rip down the 2"x4"-10' to match the inside dimension of the box beam.
  • Attach the Beams: Lift the wood box beams into place and attach them to the support brackets using lag bolts or screws. Ensure that the
